Description
After completing a PhD in Physical Sciences at Paris XI University in collaboration with Schneider Electric (CIFRE program), Patrick Bastard joined Supélec in 1992 as a lecturer and researcher.
He later took responsibility for one of the School’s five departments: Energy Systems and Power Electronics.
Following his academic career, Patrick Bastard joined Renault in 2005 to contribute to the development of embedded mechatronic systems.
After holding various positions in the fields of electronics and electrical systems, he was appointed Director of Electronics and Advanced Technologies from 2009 to 2013. In this role, he helped prepare the company for the three major technological revolutions in the automotive industry: electric vehicles, connected cars, and autonomous driving.
In 2013, Patrick Bastard was appointed Director of Energy Systems, and later Director of Driver Assistance Systems and Electronic Technologies.
In 2018, he was appointed Director of Research for Renault Group.
He was then appointed Expert Fellow in 2023, leading the Expertise function across the entire Renault Group, including engineering, manufacturing, logistics, user experience, and more.
In addition to his role as Expert Fellow, Patrick Bastard also serves as Director of Technologies and Regulation for the entire Group.
Author and co-author of 80 scientific publications, Patrick Bastard has supervised 20 PhD students over the course of his career, bridging the gap between industry and academia.
